This gallery features images of the Greek fertility god, Priapus.
Rather than a sign of 'phallus worship' as regarded by most researchers today,
deities like Priapus were merely meant to awaken the sexual energy so as to promote healthy fertility among the people.
Just as sexual imagery today arouses the energy and increases hormonal production, so did the image or thought of
Priapus for the Greeks. In this way, among other things, Priapus acted as a natural prevention & cure for impotence.
Thus sexual gods & goddesses had their natural place in life alongside the virtues promoted by other deities.
