Christian Art — Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene represents, perhaps better than any Christian figure,
the idea of directing sexual love & desire toward a spiritual goal.
Many alternative accounts of Mary Magdalene's life exist, among those that she was a
sexual priestess, not prostitute, and that she was Christ's lover and the mother of his child.
Regardless of the details, it is clear that Christ held her in high regard, often using her as an example
to show that true, passionate love surpasses dry discipline and denial of self in spiritual practice.
