Minoan Goddess Art
This gallery features images of the Minoan Snake Goddess honored by the ancient peoples of Crete.
The Minoan culture is one of the most peaceful in history, and thought by many to have a strong sacred sex tradition.
The Snake Goddess ideal derives from the ancient recognition of spiritual energy lying dormant at the base of the spine,
coiled like a serpent, ready to rise therefrom as snakes do. The idea is best known in India, by the name 'kundalini'.
To the Minoans, the Snake Goddess was likely one who bestowed this spiritual awakening upon the people.
Some scholars believe that traditional dress for Minoan women was bare-breasted, in the manner of the Snake Goddess.
